Kamala Harris
Kamala Devi Harris is an American politician. Born on the 20th of October 1964, she was the 49th Vice President of the United States. She is the first female vice president , and the highest-ranking female politician in U.S. history, as being the first African American and first Asian American vice president. A member of the Democratic Party, she previously was the attorney general of California from 2011 to 2017 and was a United States senator representing California from 2017 until 2021. Harris was born and was raised in Oakland, California. After starting her career as an Alameda County District Attorney Harris was enlisted to the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. In the following years, she was the City Attorney of San Francisco. In 2003 she was elected the city's district attorney. Harris was elected Attorney general of California in 2010. In 2014, she won re-election. Harris served as the junior United States Senator from California between 2017 until 2021. Harris defeated Loretta Sanchez in the 2016 Senate elections to become the 2nd African American woman, and the first South Asian American, to serve as senator in the United States Senate. In her time as a senator, she pushed for health reform, federal descholaring of cannabis, a pathway for undocumented immigrants to become citizens as well as the DREAM Act and a ban on assault weapons. She also backed progressive tax reform. She is well-known for her direct questioning of Trump government officials during Senate hearings.
